THE BEGINNING OF KNOWLEDGE – Proverbs 1 Wisdom Challenge.
THE BEGINNING OF KNOWLEDGE
Discover the Proverbs 31 Days Wisdom Challenge, a daily journey through Proverbs to gain wisdom, understanding, discernment, and practical guidance for life.
For the next 31 days, pause and open your mind to a wisdom that is not taught in universities, schools, or lecture halls. Through the Proverbs 31 Days Wisdom Challenge, you will discover an education that reaches beyond books, degrees, theories, and the limits of human reasoning. If you are searching for a higher education, perhaps you need to find a Teacher whose knowledge and understanding reach beyond the carnal mind and the boundaries of earthly thinking.
This may explain humanity’s ancient pursuit of philosophers, sages, spiritual teachers, and gurus. Beneath the hunger for knowledge lies a deeper hunger: the desire to understand what cannot be explained by human wisdom alone.
But why are we so driven to seek knowledge? Why does the human spirit continually reach beyond what it can see, measure, and prove?
And perhaps the greatest question of all:
Where does wisdom come from?
Is wisdom merely the accumulated knowledge of men and women across the ages? Is it born from experience, intellect, and observation? Or is there a higher source, a wisdom that existed before our universities, before our philosophies, before our civilizations?
Learn something new each day.
Discover something deeper.
PROVERBS ONE
The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
2 Know my wisdom and instructions, and you will perceive in my words discernment.
3 For when you receive my instruction, you will prosper in justice, judgment, and equity.
4 I give cleverness to the simple, and to young men knowledge and discretion.
5 The wise will hear me, and increase in learning and understanding.
6 They will possess counsel, understand proverbs with its interpretation, including the words of the wise and their dark sayings.
The Fear Of The Lord Is The Beginning Of Knowledge
7 The fear the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise his wisdom and instruction.
8 My son, my daughter, hear the instruction of your father, and do not hold back the law of your mother.
9 An ornament of grace will they be on your head, and a chain around your neck.
Bad Friends Leads To Bad Decisions
10 My son, when sinners want to entice you, consent not, when they say;
11 Come, let us wait for blood and lurk at the innocent for nothing.
12 We will swallow them alive, and the grave will perfect them as they go down into the pit.
13 And when we find precious substance, we will fill our houses with spoil.
14 Cast your lot with us, and we will have one purse.
15 Son, do not walk with them in that way; refrain your feet from their path.
16 Their feet run to evil, as they haste to shed blood.
17 But in vain a net is spread in the sight of any prey.
18 So they wait for blood and hide for lives in their way.

19 And in their greed for gain they take the life of its owner.
20 Now, wisdom shouts outside, and with joy she utters her voice in the streets.
21 She cries in the chief market places, even at the entrance of the gates of the city, she utters her words.
22 But the simple love simplicity, and scorners are desirous of scorning, so fools hate knowledge.
23 ‘Turn at my reproof, and he will pour out his Spirit on you, and you will know his word.’
24 So I called, but they refused. I even stretched out my hand to them, but no one regarded me.
25 They have set at nothing my counsel, and were unwilling at my reproof.
26 But I will laugh at their calamity, and will mock them when their fear comes.
27 Fear will come on them for desolation, and destruction will arrive as a whirlwind; and in their distress, anguish will come on them.
28 Then will they call me, but I will not answer them. And they will seek me early, but will not find me.
29 They hated my knowledge and chose not the fear of the LORD.
30 They didn’t want my counsel, and despised my reproof.
31 Therefore will they eat the fruit of their ways, as they are filled with their own devices.
32 The backsliding of the simple will kill them, and the prosperity of fools will destroy them.
33 But whoever listen to me will settle in safety, and will be quiet from the fear of evil.
My Thoughts:
He was the wisest man that ever lived. But his wisdom did not come from being born as a sage, indigo, or a genius. It all happenned in a dream while he was sleeping. He was a young man about to become a king. And because David, his father, was loved, God appeared to him in a dream and said, “Ask whatever you want, and I will give it to you.” And instead of asking for riches, he asked for wisdom, so he could rule the people well. And so this Solomon became the wisest man that ever lived when God granted him his wish.
The book of Proverbs captures that wisdom in 31 chapters – one for each day so you and I can also become wise. But sadly, this wisdom and knowledge are not taught in public schools, colleges, or universities. So in chapter one, Solomon warned of the dangers that await those who reject his wisdom. For his wisdom came from the mouth of God. And thus he said: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but they have hated my knowledge and chosen not to fear God, followed by the consequences of rejecting and despising the counsel and wisdom of God.
To this day, the wise reflect on his wisdom and knowledge But still there is a greater wisdom available to man than that which can be casually observed in reading Proverbs. And that is to know God, who gives wisdom to anyone who asks it of him.
The final verse concludes with a blessing for those who listen: safety and peace will be your portion.
