PROVERBS 19
1 Better is the poverty-stricken who walks in integrity than the perverse lips and a fool.
2 A soul with knowledge is good and will not haste his or her feet to sin.
3 The foolishness of man is to pervert his way and for his heart to sadden the LORD.
4 Wealth makes many friends, but the needy is separated from his neighbor.
5 A false witness will not be unpunished, and he that speaks lies will not escape.
6 The great are weakened, but the favor of nobles is another mans gift.
7 The brothers of the poverty-stricken hates him; even his friends are far from his pursuing words.
8 Whoever possesses wisdom loves his own soul, and in understanding will find good.
9 False witnesses will be punished, and liars that speaks lies will perish.
10 Elogance is unattractive when a fool and servants have rule over princes.
11 The discretion of a man controls his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
12 The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a young lion, but his delight is as dew on the grass.
13 A foolish son is calamity to his father, like the continual dripping of a contentious wife.
14 House and riches are an inheritance from a father; but to prosper with your wife is from the LORD.
15 Slothfulness will cast one into a slumber, and an idle soul will suffer hunger.
16 Keep the commandments, and you will keep your soul; but if you despise the way, you will die.
17 Anyone who has pity on the needy lends to the LORD, and what you have given, he will repay.
18 Correct your son in the hope for his soul, but if you spare him, he will die.
19 A man of great wrath will suffer punishment, and if you deliver him, you will have to do it repeatedly.
18 Hear my counsel and receive my instruction that you may be wise in your latter end.
21 There are many devices in a man’s heart, but the counsel of the LORD stands.
22 His desire for men is kindness, and for the poverty-stricken to be good, not liars.
23 The fear of the LORD is life, and stay satisfied lest you be visited with evil.
24 The slothful hides his hand in his bosom, and will not bring it to his mouth.
25 Strike a scorner and the simple will be aware, for in reprove is understanding to understands knowledge.
26 He that wastes his father, and chases away his mother is a son of shame, and disappointment.
27 Cease not, my son, to hear my instruction, that you may not err from my words of knowledge.
28 An ungodly witness scorns at judgment, for the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity.
29 Judgments is prepared for scorners, as stripes for the back of a fool.

Spank them with the rod and so deliver their souls from hell. Proverbs 23:13
– Proverbs
My Thoughts:
Proverbs is full of wisdom, and it is easy, for those who have understanding. Now, I also realize that Proverbs is a book for everyone who loves to be wise. From teachers to students, to kings and and his servants, but also for parents and their children.
From chapter one until thirty one, there is a consistent theme. A father is teaching his son. He rebukes, reproves, corrects, and instructs his son in the affairs of life. And for this reason, I would recommend the Book of Proverbs as the most important instruction manual for parents who want to give their children more than just an education. God, in his infinite wisdom and provision, has given rich and poor a book that is full of life, wisdom, and knowledge.
When parents apply this wisdom and knowledge to themselves, they become wise to teach their children and to raise them well. No degree or certificate you earn teaches children and adults of traps, death, and dangers hidden, or out in the open.
For this reason I want to focus on two key scriptures, verses 16 and verse 18. Keep my commandments, and you will keep your soul; but if you despise the way, you will die.
And correct your children in the hope for their soul, but if you spare them, they will die.
Both scriptures warn of imminent death. Good parents know this very well and therefore are very protective over their children from birth until they themselves die. For example; they constantly warn them of the danger of running across the street, or not to be alone after dark, and the list is endless.
But here a wise father tells his son: Keep my commandments, and you will live. So a wise child, obeying the voice of their parents, will avoid unnecessary danger or ill fated adventures. But when a child despises the instruction and ways of his parents, he or she will die. Death don’t care for anyone.
The author is not just talking here about a natural death where a child does something stupid after he has been warned and he ends up dead. No, the father here also represents your heavenly Father, who gave his commandments, and in keeping them you get to keep your soul, but if you despise his way, you will die. No matter your age, race, or gender.
But you say everybody dies. No,not everybody dies the same way. These two scriptures talk about the second death. The death that comes after you die. The death where you are cast into the lake of fire and brimstone for eternity, and where the burning of the smoke of them who died continues without end, and where the flesh eating worms never die.
I watched a true crime documentary called Just Though Lounge, where this scenario played out perfectly. A good father did all he could to raise his daughter well. She was even the model daughter whom he loved and protected. But then she started dating another young man who was nothing like her father. And this romance changed her into a monster, one who would become the first victim of her own evil. The words that stood out most before her death, was when she said; I wanted to throw the bible at someones forehead. If only she would have kept the bible and what was written inside, then she would also have kept her soul.
She was a privileged daughter who had two fathers who gave her commandments to follow, but because she secretly despised both of them, she openly rebelled, lost her soul, and died by the very hand of the devil who influenced her.
This is also connected to the second verse that says, ” Correct your child when there is still hope for their soul, but if you spare them, they will die. She died because she entrusted her soul to a stranger whose evil plan was to murder her without mercy. But parents who don’t correct their children hates them. Parents’ correction is for the souls of their children. If they spare them from rebuke, correction, reproof, and instruction, they will die. Therefore children obey your parents and you will live.
God gives each person, young and old, a choice to avoid death by saying; My commandments are life. But for many people, to live is to do whatever they want, not knowing the reaper only gets to keep those souls who rejected Christ and died without a savior.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life. Jesus paid the price for your soul and therefore his children are never without correction, instruction and reproof. His word is a lamp for our feet and a light for the road ahead.
