Ever man wants a good wife and every girl wants to be that wife, but not every woman wants to do the things that makes her a good companion. Proverbs 31 is the advice from a wise woman to her son how to spot a good woman.

Like yesterday, read the chapter, and I will give some thoughts at the end.

PROVERBS 31

The words to King Lemuel, and the prophecy by which his mother corrected him.

2 My son, son of my womb, and son of my vows,

3 Give not your strength to women and the ways that destroy kings.

4 King Lemuel, if kings drink wine and princes strong drink.

5 Let them not drink and forget the law, lest they pervert judgment and the sons be afflicted.

6 Rather give strong drink to the dying, and wine to the afflicted sons.

7 Let them drink to forget their poverty, and not to remember their misery.

The Fight for Justice

8 Open your mouth for the dumb, and for the cause of those appointed to destruction.

9 Open your mouth and judge righteously, and plead for the afflicted and the poor.

The virtuous woman

10 Find yourself a virtuous woman, for her price is far above rubies.

11 The heart of her husband trusts her not to decrease their income and assets.

12 She does him good, not evil, all the days of her life.

13 She seeks wool and flax, and willingly works with her hands.

14 Like merchants’ ships, she brings her food from afar.

15 She rises till night to give food to her household and a portion to her maid.

16 She considers a field and buys it. And with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard.

17 She girds her loins with strength, and strengthens her arms.

18 The taste of her merchandise is good. Her candle does not go out at night.

19 She lays her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.

20 She stretched out her hand to the afflicted and reached forth her hands to the poor.

21 She is not afraid of the snow for her household; for her household are clothed with scarlet.

22 She makes tapestry, and her clothing is silk and purple.

23 Her husband is known in the gates, where he sits among the elders of the land.

24 She makes linen and sells it, and delivers girdles to the merchants.

25 Strength and honor are her clothing, and she will rejoice in times to come.

26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.

27 She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.

28 Her children rise up blessed, and her husband praises her.

29 Many daughters do virtuously, but she excels them all.

Beautiful Women

31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.

My Thoughts:

Every man wants a good wife, and every girl wants to be that bride, but not every woman wants to do the things that make her a good companion. Proverbs 31 is the advice from a wise mother to her son on how to spot a good woman.

The book of Proverbs reflects mainly on a father’s interaction with his son. The father is his constant teacher and counselor who rebukes, reproves, instructs, and corrects his son to stay on the right path and to be a good man.

His father also warned his son to stay away from bad girls. But today’s society celebrates bad girls as a good thing. He warns his son to watch out for strange women who flatter with their lips 💋, whose lips drip honey but whose ankles are chained to hell beneath. Hence the bad girls who wear ankle jewelry signifying their sexual desire and immorality.

He also warns his son to avoid the house of whores, which is a graveyard for men whose souls are in hell. Hence the many sex shops, brothels, and porn content online because fools have no love for wisdom and for their souls. Their only desire is to satisfy the flesh, not knowing that God did not create them for sexual immorality and perversion. Therefore God commands all men to repent and to be baptised for the remission of their sins and to present their bodies to Him as a living sacrifice. For without holiness no one will see God. Flee sexual immorality, for it is your soul.

This chapter is dedicated to women who want to be good wives. God can help you change and build you into a woman of honor. After all, this chapter was the words of a mother to her son. First, she instructs him how to be a good king, and then she shifts her focus to advising him how to spot a good wife. And one of her character traits is that she cares for her family by making sure they have everything to live a comfortable life at home. She prepares her home so that it is a joy for the family to come home to her.

She is also the woman her husband trusts. She will do him no harm all the days of her life. That means she doesn’t get bored with her role as a mother or a wife. She doesn’t waste her or his money on frivolous spending. She is content with her life, and her home and her family are the reason she is also an industrious woman. Whether a stay-at-home mom or not, she is always busy finding ways to increase her value and her money, not her spending. Her husband trusts her and feels safe.

And for a godly woman to support feminism disqualifies her from this quiet attractiveness. Simply because there is nothing feminine about feminism. The cause has been corrupted, and the rebellion is obvious. Whoever associates themselves with this movement has strayed from the path by their alliances with evil. And when you bring this spirit into your home you are that women in proverbs that tears down her home with her hands.

There is so much to say about this woman. She doesn’t just care about her own family, but she treats her maids well. She cares for others. The Proverbs 31 woman is the most desirable woman among men. How much more if this woman is also a believer in Jesus Christ. Because then she not only makes her home a paradise for her family, but she also gets to enjoy eternity with them.
