PROVERBS 27
Tomorrow Is Not Promised.
1 Don’t boast about tomorrow; for you know not what today may bring.
2 Let someone else praise you, not your own mouth; yes, a stranger, not your own lips.
Tomorrow is too late:

Stop Procrastinating: The phrase warns that waiting for the “perfect time” usually results in never doing it at all.
Seize the Moment: It highlights the urgency of the present moment because the future is never guaranteed.
Common Variation: People often say, “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift—which is why it is called the present.”
Wrath, Anger, and Jealousy
3 Stones are heavy, and sand is weighty, but a fool’s wrath is heavier than both.
4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who can stand before jealousy?
Love is not silent
5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.
6 And faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
General Observations
7 The soul that is full will loathe a honeycomb, but to the hungry soul even the bitter is sweet.
8 As a bird wanders from its nest, so a man wanders from his place.
9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart; so is the sweetness of a friend’s heartfelt counsel.
10 When your friends, or your father’s friends, forsake you, do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity; for better is a neighbor that is nearby than a brother far off.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer them that may reproach me.
12 The prudent foresees evil and hides, but the simple pass on and are punished.
13 Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger, and from him who pledged for a strange woman.
14 If you bless a friend with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be counted as a curse.
15 Continual dripping on a rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
16 Whoever hides cannot hide from the wind; so is the ointment in the right hand of the called.
17 As iron sharpens iron, so will a man sharpen the countenance of his friends.
18 If you keep the fig tree, you will eat its fruit; and if you wait on your master, you will be honored.
19 As water reflects a face, so the heart of man to a man.
20 Hell and destruction are never satisfied; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.
21 As a refining pot for silver and a furnace for gold, so is a man’s mouth for praise.
22 Bray a fool in a hollow place with a mortar, or like wheat with a pestle, yet will his foolishness not depart from him.
23 Be diligent to know the state of your flock, and look well to your herd.
24 Riches are not forever, nor a crown to every generation.
A Farmer’s Sayings:
25 When the hay appears, and the tender grass shows, then the herbs on the mountains are gathered.
26 Lambs are for clothing, and goats for the price of a field.
27 Goats’ milk is enough for food. It will be the food of your household and for the maintenance of your maids.
My Thoughts:
Don’t boast about tomorrow, for you don’t know what will happen today. What happens tomorrow depends on today. You see, tomorrow is never promised. And just like that, tomorrow is gone.
Tomorrow went missing, and it all happened today. It happened so quickly, so unexpectedly. In the twinkling of an eye, life changed. Today has abruptly cancelled tomorrow’s plans.
An accident brought a sudden halt to everyone’s plans, and their agendas are the silent witnesses that some have boasted about tomorrow, which never came. Do you remember what happened to the Titanic? They boasted that not even God could sink her. She was the unsinkable Cruise of luxury. But then, as they went to bed for the night, they boasted about tomorrow and the excursions and all the entertainment that awaited on this luxurious cruise. But tomorrow never came. And before the sun would rise, the maiden voyage was halted, and she sank to the bottom of the ocean, taking more than half of all the souls onboard.
There is a lot of boasting about tomorrow, yet of all those who boast, none of them has the power to hold their life in their own hands. One moment you’re out having fun; the next, something happens that forever alters life.
What is the purpose of this quiet reflection about tomorrow?
It is for you to awaken to the fact that life is a gift; you have the privilege to enjoy all of it and to embrace God’s creation from birth to death, each day at a time. It is for you not to waste your time today with nonsense, as if tomorrow and the day after are a given. Time is money, but money cannot buy time.
Soldiers on a battlefield know how futile boasting about tomorrow is. When you are engaged in war, all that matters is what you do today and that you stay alive a little longer. But most people don’t live in the danger zone, so we plan as if tomorrow is forever. And when you live like that, you hardly have time to appreciate the moment because you are always running forward to something else.
There are many stories like this where people planned for retirement, and the day before they were to stop working, something tragic happened that no one foresaw. People in their strength plan ahead for the year. They set goals to achieve and they out there chasing each and everyone of them. But such boasting about how you will buy a house, retire in peace, and whatever else you boast about is foolishness.
A rich man built himself a great empire. Everything was going according to plan. He enlarged his storage facility and built himself a bigger house. And when he was finished, he looked at everything and said: Well done, you did it. Now you can relax and retire. But God, watching him, spoke up and said; You fool, today the Reaper comes for you, and tomorrow who will be all that you have gathered? Such is life: how many rush to riches and fall into a 6-foot-deep hole someone else dug without a penny or a dime.
If you should die today, don’t worry about who will get what of your little or much stuff. The question is, are you ready to meet your Maker? Are you ready to die today, and if so, will you see God’s face in anger, or will he say to you, ” Well done, my good and faithful servant. Will you hear the judgement of an angry God or the welcome of a loving heavenly Father?
God wants you to know: today matters, not tomorrow. Today is the day of salvation. Not tomorrow. Today is the day he is speaking to you and inviting you to accept Christ as your saviour. Today is the day of your salvation. Only believe in Jesus Christ and be baptised for the remission of your sins, and you shall be saved. Today, when you hear his voice, say, Jesus, come into my heart and you will have eternal life.
