THE ANT LESSON – Proverbs 6 Wisdom Challenge.

THE ANT LESSON

I love ants. Most boys do, but girls use chemicals to get rid of these tiny creatures in their messy kitchens. Like pets, ants are your friends. Now, lets dive right into wisdom and get understanding. Like yesterday, read the chapter, and I will give some thoughts at the end.

PROVERBS 6

Signing Sureytyship for a Friend

1 My son, in surety for a friend, you will be afflicted by the hand of a stranger.

2 You were snared by the words of your mouth, and now you are taken for the words of your mouth.

3 Make this now, my son, and deliver yourself. For you were brought under by the hand of your friend; but go humble yourself, for you were overcome by your friend.

4 Give not sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.

5 And deliver your glory from their hands, like a bird from the hand of a trapper.

The Ant Lesson

6 Go to the ant, you sluggard, consider its ways, and be wise.

7 They have no guide, ruler, or overseer.

8 Yet they provide food in the summer and gather food at harvest time.

9 How long will you sleep, you sluggard, and not rise out of your sleep?

10 A little more sleep, a little more slumber, and a little more folding of hands to sleep.

11 So will your poverty come as a traveler, and your want as an armed man.

Bad Actors

12 A naughty person and a wicked man walk with froward mouths.

13 They wink with their eyes, move their feet, and teach their fingers frowardness.

14 Their hearts devise mischief and they continually sow discord.

15 But calamity will come on them suddenly, and suddenly will they be broken without remedy.

16. Six things the LORD hates and the seventh is an abomination to him:

17 A proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood,

18 A heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

19 A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brothers.

The Consequences of Adultery

20 My son, keep my commandments, and do not disregard your mother’s law.

21 Bind them continually onto your heart, and tie them around your neck.

22 Wherever you go, they will lead you; when you sleep, they will keep you; and when you wake up, they will talk to you.

23 My commandment is a lamp, and my law a light for reproof and instruction in the way of life.

24 To keep you from an evil woman and the flattering tongue of a strange woman.

25 Desire not her beauty in your heart, and let her not take you with her eyelids.

26 For by the means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread, and the adulteress will hunt down his precious life.

27 Can a man take fire into his bosom, and his clothes not burn?

28 Can you walk on hot coals and your feet not burn?

29 Likewise, if you go to your neighbor’s wife and touch her, you will not be innocent.

30 Despise not a thief when they steal to satisfy their soul when they are hungry.

31 But if caught, let them pay back seven times, even if they have to give the substance of their house.

32 He who commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; he does it, and destroys his own soul.

33 A wound and dishonor he gets, and his shame will not be wiped away.

34 For out of jealousy and in rage a man will not spare in the day of his vengeance.

35 Neither will he forebear for a ransom, nor will he be content with many gifts.

My Thoughts:

I love ants. Most boys do, but girls use chemicals to get rid of these tiny creatures in their messy kitchens. Like pets, ants are your friends. They do not need pesticides. They are clean and industrious and have a lesson for any lazy person out there.

Parents take note: Instead of complaining and dragging your kids to perform chores, take them on an adventure that will stimulate their inquisitive minds. Let them watch ants until they get the message: Ants have no guide, ruler, or overseer, yet do they keep working, no matter how dangerous their environment proves to be.

In the first six verses, Solomon warns that surety for a friend is a bad idea. In almost all cases, it afflicts the person who signs the surety for a friend. Dont do it.

Solomon also points out the characteristics of evil, wicked people. They like to use sign language even though they are not deaf and dumb. This is followed by six things the LORD hates, and the seventh is an abomination to him. So if you want God to be pleased with you, and not angry, avoid these behaviors.

And finally, Solomon is warning you about the consequences of flirting with another person’s wife and ending up in adultery. If you want a happy life, do not mess around with your neighbor’s wife. The same rules apply to wives. Remember the Boston couple whose affair was caught live on air which ruined them and their loved ones at home?
